Born in Grenoble on 31 May 1920, he died in Annonay on 17 March 1982, a graduate of the École des Beaux Arts in Lyon, a pupil of Albert Gleizes married to Denis Héraut Legrain, he founded the Vitalism movement with her, and lived in Serrières Ardèche where he founded his workshop La petite Baronnie. Jean Marcel Héraut is known for his waterscapes, his marines, his tapestry cartons, woodcuts and religious and poetry works. His works can be seen at the Museum of Valencia, Bayeux and Royans, where he has exhibited in New York, Paris and Amsterdam.
